NASC
May 29 2000, Mick Scrivener got on a train heading to London. On that train he met PZ for the first time. Both of them had flown to the UK from Southern California with the same mission, to watch Ipswich Town win promotion to the Premiership at Wembley.
Town fans will know what happened on the pitch at Wembley that day. But another important even also took place. The North American Branch of the Ipswich Town Supporters Club was started. Once back in the New World, Mick and PZ went to work creating the Supporters Club. Through the wonder of the internet, Mick and PZ were able to find a number of like-minded Ipswich Town supporters on this side of the Atlantic. By the start of the ‘00-’01, the Branch was in place with members nationwide (in addition to Canada and the Caribbean) and officially recognized by ITFC.
Since then, like ITFC, the North American Supporters Club (NASC) has had it’s ups and downs.
Highlights have been:
- Club trip to Portman Road for the Ipswich-Southampton match in 2002 including tour of ground the day before the match.
- Trip/meet-up/AGM/party in Las Vegas.
- Sponsorship of a youth players kit.
In addition, various fans have been able to meet other Ipswich Town supporters in their area and they have managed to meet up at local watering holes (AKA pubs) to view televised matches together.
Currently, membership in the Club is free though we often make donations to cover expenses. If you would like to get involved, join the Google Group and send everyone an email to say ‘hi’. Join us in creating more highlights and supporting the Tractor Boys from this side of the pond.
