I don’t think Roy Keane thought things would be this difficult when he arrived in Suffolk a few months ago. After all, the team produced some decent results in the few matches after his arrival.
However, this is a new season and….well, things aren’t going to plan.
Yesterday, I posted a nice long piece about players possibly making an exit from Portman Road. I didn’t mention it yesterday but it seems Evans has an MLS mentality (the league not the houses) in that in order to strengthen the squad, money needs to be freed up. In other words, could Keep have already spent his transfer budget? He hasn’t spent much so I’m guessing Magilton possibly sent it or…well, the money must be gone. Other wise, would he really be looking to off load a couple of ‘decent’ (in my opinion) players? Perhaps he’s just looking to free up money to strengthen other areas and getting what he can with what he has?
Ok, so last nights match was another blow. I didn’t get to see it but any time you go 1-0 up away in the first quarter hour, earn a penalty soon after (which is saved) and then end up losing 2-1, something isn’t working right.
“We are disappointed we did not get something out of the game. We started well and when we got it down and passed it we looked a decent team. The second goal was a major disappointment.
“With the first goal you say outstanding strike, but with the second it was very poor defending.”
Passing? I’m trying to think back to the matches I’ve seen this year and I don’t really recall a great deal of passing game. At least not short passes.
Poor defending? Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t the three rumored to be leaving a striker and two midfielders? All the more reason to think it’s not them that is the problem but they are being sacrificed to find the money to bring in players at other positions.
Of course, today there’s a new wrinkle. According to Keane:
“Colin Healy and Damien Delaney were not in my squad for the Hawthorns but they were back last night.
“You cannot write off the Ipswich careers of Owen (Garvan) and Jon (Stead) on the back of them not being at Peterborough.
“And I read that Alan Quinn was also on his way out. But he was in my team last night and he will back up that he has not been told I am thinking about letting him go.”
Could the EADT just be making stuff up? They wouldn’t just be trying to sell papers would they?
Hang on, it seems we’ve signed a couple of players. Celtic Captain (center-back) Stephen McManus and Midfielder Grant Leadbitter (thought it was Leadbetter when I first read it, as it Jimmy) from Sunderland.
So, what is really going on? More importantly, when are we going to start winning and stop playing like N*rwich?
