Mariner Sailing Home?
I’ve been meaning to post this for a few days but it seems Jason De Vos could soon be the only former Town player with an MLS connection. Last week, New England Revolution granted permission to Plymouth to talk to Paul Mariner.
Bobby Robson bought Mariner from Plymouth in 1976–I still love the story in Sir Bobby’s autobiography about one of the Cobbold’s being confused about buying a Mariner from Plymouth and thinking they were getting a sailor–so he’d be returning to his former club should things work out.
Personally, I’d always thought Mariner would end up leading an MLS club. He’s earned a shot at the role and been considered for several positions. However, they haven’t panned out. We’ll see where this goes.
So, if he does leave, that will mean those of us north of the border will be able to hear Jason De Vos doing commentary for CBC. Am I missing anyone?
Oh yeah, Frank Yallop, but he’s in San Jose and as someone who had LA Galaxy season tickets for 10 years, they don’t count.
