At the rate things are going, players will still be introducing themselves to each other a month into the season.
Things aren’t working out too well the first couple weeks of the season so Roy Keane has decided to go with a plan that worked before by buying a bunch of his former Sunderland players.
Sunderland have agree to a price for Grant Leadbitter (who we knew about yesterday) and Trinidad & Tobago winger, Carlos Edwards. Edwards will probably be in the squad for the TnT squad for next week’s World Cup Qualifiers in Honduras and at home against the US on Sept 9.
It seems the door is still open (or at least cracked) for Keane to also get Daryl Murphy from Sunderland as well. A transfer fee had been agreed upon last month. However, Town couldn’t reach personal terms with Murphy when he walked away when Hull showed interest in him. He may be more interested now.
Keep in mind, all three of the Sunderland players mentioned played last night in the Carling Cup match at Carrow Road which ended in a predictable thrashing of the Budgies.
Interesting that we also found out that after we hear Keane worked a deal with Steve Bruce to by a few of his former players, Bruce’s son, Alex, was announced as the new captain. I’m sure the conspiracy types will have fun with that one.
From what I can tell though, there’s no truth to the rumors that the club will be changing their name to Ipswland or Sunderwich (or, poor attempt at humor…sorry)
One final note, Doncaster might be interested in Jon Stead. I did say “might” there. It’s just one of those “end of the transfer window wild speculation just to fill some space in the paper” reports. I probably shouldn’t have even posted it but…ya never know.
In other news, Town travel to Doncaster for a match on Saturday.
