Down to play N*arwich! We’re going down to play…

keane…not really but at times today you had to wonder.  Honestly, you know you are having a rough day when your keeper is easily your MOTM–even saves a penalty–and you still lose 2-0.

This was only the second match I’ve been able to see this season.  I can’t help be feel while watching the matches that Town right now are like a puzzle which is almost solved….but not quite and you can’t put your finger on the problem.  The pieces seem to be all there but something just isn’t right.

West Brom got on the score sheet early in the 10 minute with Mulumbu getting the first from a loose ball just outside the box.  Their lead was doubled 15 minutes later when Koren worked a great give and go leaving Wright with no chance when he hit from long range.

Town created a handful of chances in the first half but Richard Wright was forced to make some fantastic saves though out the match.  A couple of substitutions at half-time helped and Town created more chances in the second forcing the Baggies keeper to make some quality stops himself.  When Town gave up a clear penalty (I forgot who it was who brought him down) you just had a feeling Wright would stop it…and he did.

Still, even though we lost 2-0, you feel we aren’t far from finding our rhythm.  We created chances but just couldn’t finish.  Our backline didn’t have the best shape but if felt it was something that time together would sort out.  The midfield for me was the question mark.  They didn’t seem on the same page at times.

Hopefully, Keane will sort it out.  I agree with his post match comments.

“I always knew that the job would be difficult but there is no getting away from the fact that it is a massive, massive challenge over the next few months. It is sink or swim for the players. We need to do better and I don’t want to keep saying it. We don’t look much of a goal threat and we are giving bad goals away. That is a recipe for trouble so it is going to be very, very hard. But it can be done. You have to believe that we can turn it around.

“The Championship season is very long and you have to believe that we can get up to speed – sooner rather than later. Against Albion we gave a couple of bad goals away and we need to do better.”

When asked about bringing in new players….

“There is no reason for us to panic so early in the season just because two or three results have not gone our way and then start bringing in four or five players in. We know we have decent quality in the squad and we will have fresh players coming back next week.

“Everyone else can panic and while I hoped we would start better, we have to keep trying to do the right thing and I’m convinced the performances will come.

“We have to be patient. I’m not the most patient man on the planet myself but I also understand the bigger picture and sometimes it can take time.

“Whether it is the new players coming in or the experienced players we have here, it all takes time to gel together.”

Let’s just hope he’s able to bring the team together quickly.

If anyone is up to doing regular match reports, let me know. I would be good if we had someone (or a couple of someones to share the duty) putting something together after each match.
